Dr. Mary Zhou

Mary is thrilled to be back on the West Coast and beginning her career on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Originally from Calgary, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Health – Food Safety and Quality from the University of Alberta. After moving to Nanaimo and later downtown Vancouver, Mary gained valuable experience working in several small animal practices before pursuing her veterinary degree at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon.

During veterinary school, Mary spent three months in Uganda as part of a University of Saskatchewan One Health project, where she worked closely with small ruminants, schoolchildren, and women’s community groups—an experience that deepened her passion for community-based veterinary medicine.

Mary shares her home with her partner and Pretzl, her spirited 10-year-old shepsky mix, a beloved rescue. Outside of her professional life, Mary has a passion for food and cooking and loves swapping recipes and restaurant recommendations. She also enjoys baking, board games, rock climbing, reading, and training Pretzl in scent work.
Excited to meet her new colleagues and clients, Mary looks forward to building connections both inside and outside the hospital while contributing her skills, energy, and compassion to the community.
